Real-life Props
We use toys and real-life props, such as brushes, kitchen items and gardening tools, throughout our setting both indoors and outdoors.
About us
The Nurturing Tree is a nursery school based in Lekki Phase 1, providing early years education using the Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (British Curriculum).
At The Nurturing Tree we have a passion for, and understand the importance of, children having the best foundation. We pride ourselves on providing a stimulating and caring environment for children. Our school consists of 5 classrooms which are designed to offer an environment where children are safe, inspired and nurtured. We believe that learning should be stimulating for a young child as well as practical.
The Nurturing Tree was established in 2017 and has continued to grow with success since opening. Our management team has over 15 years’ experience in the Early Years sector working with the Early Years Foundation Stage (British Curriculum). We focus on the developmental milestones of a child, particularly their personal, social and emotional development, communication and language, and their physical development (fine and gross motor). We focus on providing each child with the highest quality early years learning experience.
Our early years schemes are developed using the Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. We send weekly observations to parents through our online portal, Tapestry, where we share pictures, videos and details of how each child is progressing in their individual development.
A range of play equipment is available to help children develop an array of skills, and great care is taken to choose materials that will create an inspiring sensory experience and an inquisitive mind.
We use toys and real-life props, such as brushes, kitchen items and gardening tools, throughout our setting both indoors and outdoors.
We use a variety of different construction materials to help children develop fine motor skills and spatial awareness.
Physical play equipment such as tricycles, climbing equipment and tunnels encourages physical activity.
Role play, den making and small group activities support social interaction and interpersonal skills.
We use the Jolly Phonics programme to teach the children letter sounds in an enjoyable, multisensory way, which enables them to read and write words.
We design lots of fun, engaging mathematics activities using a variety of different materials so children gain a full understanding of shape, space and measure.

The Learning Area is the most popular room in the school. Yes… the Learning Area! The children love this room and so do we. It’s a space where they can be creative, use their imagination, develop a love for reading and work on their communication, social and creative skills through imaginative and role-play scenarios.
Our communal areas, such as walkways and stairs, are clean and child-safe, with a gate at the top and bottom of the carpeted stairs and railings at children’s height. The children’s bag hooks are in the corridors, labelled with each child’s name and picture so they can first recognise their picture and eventually their name. Each door has a check-in register, where children find their name and check themselves in and out of school by moving their name to the right picture.
A friendly atmosphere is created within our setting, based on the warm and caring relationships between our teachers and the children in their care. All our teachers are qualified in their field and go through constant training and mentoring to ensure they are always up to date with the ever-evolving education sector and are always perfecting their craft.
